Press release
Designblok’09, Prague, October 6th – 11th

Animalia project
Superstudio Classic 7, Jankovcova 49, Prague 7-Holešovice, Czech Republic
Stage design: Zbyněk Krulich
Lighting: ERCO

Markéta Richterová is a young jewelry designer well-known particularly by using non-traditional materials, as perspex, corian, or carbon fiber. Her jewelry can be described as a result of her work with light, structure, and geometry with iridescent effect. A new collection of carbon bracelets that have been of big success worldwide, will be presented at Designblok’09 in Superstudio Classic 7.

The new collection is a result of cooperation with Texeternal company who have developed metallic woven fabric made of carbon fiber exclusively for Markéta. Carbon fibers have been produced for usage in space industry based on their qualities – hardness and minimal weight. While metallic fabric retains these qualities, metal coating adds shine and visual aesthetic of precious metals, such as gold and silver. Fine scaly structure is a natural property of the fabric. Visitors to the Designblok’09 festival will be the first who can see, try and buy jewelry made of this fabric.

Designblok is a presentation of recent developments both in Czech and in world design. Annually, best Czech designers as well as young talented artists present their work at Designblok, this year from October 6 – 11, 2009.

Animalia project has been designed by Zbyněk Krulich, who is a student at the Dept. of Design and Architecture at VŠUP in Prague. He has designed a space landscape with Markéta´s jewels shining as stars. At the same time, Animalia resembles of a bizarre animal. The space atmosphere is created by changing lights of programmable LED reflectors delivered by ERCO company.

ONYX EV car concept

Onyx is designated for young and self-confident drivers who enjoy driving but at the same time
show respect for environment. They are modern cosmopolitan people who believe that environment-regarding future lies in smart technologies and their mutual synergy. They prefer elegant and distinctive design.

Mobility
For driving in the city, it is important to be able to maneuver easily. Therefore, Onyx is equipped with four separate wheels with 180° steering radius. This enables the car moving in any direction (e.g. to drive side first), to change direction easily, or to turn around on spot. Its construction from composite materials results in substantial reduction of car weight accompanied by energy saving. The wheels are smaller, in order to enhance effectiveness during acceleration, hard and textured for city use.
The driver and passenger door open to sides in order to enable parking on small parking lot and more comfortable getting on and off. The interior space is big enough to seat four adult persons. The seats are subtle and fully removable resulting in spacious transportation capacity.

Smart technology
Onyx is equipped with augmented reality interface for drivers. The windows function also as a display for displaying necessary information, such as speed, safe distance from obstacles and other cars, GPS navigation, destination distance etc., and optional information – such as communication programs, news, weather forecast, free parking, toll, etc. The information may be voice information. Computer with a multi-touch display serves for intuitive and easy control.
Software solution enables each user to adapt his own template or graphic design and to create thus its own interior atmosphere. Onyx is therefore suitable for car sharing, however, each driver will feel familiar and comfortable in it.
More cars create communication network that is able to inform almost immediately about traffic, and might also transfer collected data to a third party – various research institutions, etc.
In terms of safety, accident prevention is particularly accentuated. Onyx evaluates information from the surrounding area and the other cars, warns the driver and accommodates the driving style. In the event of a collision, the car construction made of composite materials would equalize and slow down the impact and emergency call would be dialed.

Environmental awareness
Electro-mobile Onyx does not directly emit any of the greenhouse gases or the environmentally unfriendly substances. It is not noisy. Most of the parts and materials used should have energy-saving life cycle. The parts should be production-efficient, have long lifetime, and should be easily recyclable. Fuel is spared by start/stop systems (motor off during stops) and energy re-production during braking. Selected devices, such as air-conditioning or displays, are charged by solar cells implemented in the roof window.
The basic idea of city car sharing is also environmentally friendly, as well as the intelligent navigation ensuring fluent traffic. Electro-mobiles can balance the levels of demand and offer by charging up in times of low demand and by returning power in the grid in times of high demand – thus covering additional costs, in particular if EU aims to get 20% of power from renewable sources, such as wind and solar power plants with variable output.
